Happy Birthday Baby Ducklings...
Well. It is time to update my blog about Momma Duck. She is now the proud Momma of at least one live duckling. The picture at the top shows Momma sitting on her newly hatched duckling with an empty shell next to her. The bottom picture shows the empty nest with one hatched egg and one that apparently was a dud. I didn't dig further into the nest to see if the third egg had hatched or not just in case momma wasn't finished with her nesting yet. I'm thinking this may have been her first time as a momma since not all the eggs hatched and there were only 3 eggs. Matthew and Andrew said they saw the duckling, but I didn't get to. Momma Duck has now relocated to the pond next door where she is surely teaching baby to swim, stay cool in the water and hunt for bugs and such. My neighbor next door (who raises all kinds of amazing birds) had some mother ducks nesting at the same time on his property as well, so I'm sure the mother ducks are gathering together in his ponds because there is safety in numbers. I peeked through the fence and saw some baby ducklings swimming around with their mommas. I'll try to get a picture of them sometime tomorrow... it may not be our little backyard duckie, but that's ok. I'm reminded of my grandmother's story written for me and my brother and sister when we were kids, The Dilly Dally Duck. (Title Copyright belongs to Carolyn Chase) Perhaps I should write a story about how the Dilly Dally Duck came to nest in my backyard this summer. Wouldn't Nain be pleased? Well, on that note, I'm off to bed. Love to you and yours...

Wouldn't Nain just be so pleased... (I didn't know Mom owned the title copyright... I am so glad that she does...). She was supposed to get me copies of the books she wrote for us - and I never got any. I'd better remind her! hahahha. LOVE the story of the ducks... BIG TIME! Keep 'em coming.
